In Tuesday’s IPL encounter at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 23 runs. Chennai put up 216 for 4 after losing the toss and being sent to bat. In a superb stand of 165, Shivam Dube (95* off 46) and Robin Uthappa (88 off 50) were featured.
RCB lost early wickets in the chase and were restricted to 193 for 9 despite a late burst. For Chennai, Mahesh Theekshana took four wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja took three as well. After four consecutive losses, CSK won for the first time in IPL 2022 on Tuesday.

RCB collapsed to 50 for 4 in seven overs while chasing a huge 217. Faf du Plessis was sent off after mistiming Theekshana too long on. Virat Kohli was out for one after whipping Mukesh Choudhary into a deep square leg. Theekshana caught Anuj Rawat (12) lbw with a viciously spinning one.
Glenn Maxwell walked in and immediately began bowling. However, an arm ball from Jadeja foxed him, and his innings ended on 26 off 11.
In the eighth over, CSK could have had their fifth wicket as well. Choudhary’s diving attempt at deep midwicket, however, failed to produce the intended outcome, and Suyash Prabhudessai was able to survive.
Prabhudessai and Shahbaz Ahmed physically tossed their bats and gathered a few boundaries with a mountain to climb. Choudhary’s straightforward catch at deep midwicket gave Prabhudessai a new lease on life. His exciting innings came to an end when he was clean bowled while attempting to take on Theekshana.
Choudhary, in an unusual turn of events, lost yet another routine catch presented by Dinesh Karthik off Theekshana. The Sri Lankan captain, on the other hand, got his fourth off the following ball, rushing Shahbaz and clearing him up for 41 off 27 balls.
Following the easy deaths of Wanindu Hasaranga and Akash Deep, the in-form Karthik provided RCB a glimmer of hope by clobbering 34 in 14 balls. But it wasn’t enough; Bangalore had fallen far behind schedule.
Against RCB, Dube and Uthappa take CSK to 216/4.
After being asked into bat by RCB, CSK produced an outstanding 216 for 4 thanks to a stunning third-wicket stand of 165 between Dube and Uthappa. Chennai struggled to 60 for 2 at the midway stage after losing a few early wickets.
In the second half, though, Dube and Uthappa mounted a furious onslaught on the Bangalore bowlers. Uthappa clobbered four fours and nine maximums, while Dube smashed five fours and eight sixes.
CSK’s start was not promising, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (17) being stranded lbw by Josh Hazlewood. He requested a replay, which revealed the ball was clipping the stumps. Following a magnificent diving stop by Prabhudessai, Moeen Ali (3) was run out. In the next few overs, Uthappa and Dube managed a couple of boundaries, but RCB was definitely in command.
Dube hit Hasaranga for a six and a four in the 11th over, reversing the momentum. When office Maxwell came to bowl the 13th over, Uthappa easily dispatched him for three maximums.
By sending Akash Deep past midwicket for a boundary, the right-hander completed his half-century. The next ball was sent over fine leg for a second maximum. Dube reached his fifty in the over by slashing the bowling over backward point for four.
In the 17th over, Uthappa extended Mohammed Siraj’s dismal run with the ball, dismissing him for 6,6,4 off successive deliveries. The carnage continued in Akash Deep’s next over, which went for 24 runs. Dube helped himself to two sixes this time.
In the last over, Hasaranga broke the partnership by catching Uthappa at deep midwicket, but not before clattering him for two sixes. CSK captain Jadeja, who was searching for rapid runs, died on the opening ball. Dube smashed Hazlewood for maximums over long-on and deep square leg in the final over, falling five runs short of a well-deserved hundred.
