Shane Watson is indeed the latest man inside the reckoning for the Delhi Capitals’ coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2022 season. The former Australian all-rounder is reportedly just a few legalities away from joining the franchise, according to Cricbuzz.

Watson will rejoin the Capitals’ training staff on the recommendation of head coach Ricky Ponting, according to Cricbuzz. Apart from Ponting, the Queensland-born former cricketer will collaborate alongside Praveen Amre, Mohammad Kaif, and Ajay Ratra, who all have the same role.

Former Indian pace bowler Ajit Agarkar has agreed to become the Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach, according to a reputable news source. Officials, on the other hand, have yet to corroborate the news. James Hopes will remain as bowling coach, and the team has yet to name a fielding coach.

The Delhi Capitals have reached the playoffs three times in the last three years, making them one of the most consistent teams in the league. However, they have yet to win their first IPL title. Shane Watson’s illustrious Indian Premier League career:

Meanwhile, Watson, who will join the Capitals, is regarded as one of the best foreign players in tournament history. The 40-year-old has won the Indian Premier League twice. Once with the Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and again with the Chennai Super Kings in 2018.

In the 2008 edition, he won the ‘Man of the Tournament award. For his 472 runs and 17 wickets in 15 matches.

After 2018, he was instrumental in the Super Kings’ title victory. Scoring 555 runs in 17 games at a strike rate of 39.64. In the final against SunRisers Hyderabad, the right-hander hit a spectacular century to assist his team score 179 runs.

In November of that year, he retired from all forms of cricket, having played his final season in 2020.

The total, seam-bowling all-rounder has scored 3874 runs in 145 games while striking at 137.91. He also collected 92 wickets at a respectable 29.15 average.
