Here we are going to tell you about Akash Chopra’s perspective on investment on MS Dhoni in IPL 2022. So to know more do read the article.
Aakash Chopra, a former India opener, believes the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made an emotional decision by retaining MS Dhoni as its second-choice captain. Along with Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali, the 40-year-old was named to the franchise’s retention list.
When it came to auctions, Akash Chopra believes CSK would likely stick to their past strategy. In the past, the reigning champions have depended on experience, and they are likely to stick to that formula in the coming seasons.
Chopra told ESPN Cricinfo that he believes CSK will only be able to get one of Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.
“CSK took an emotional decision by placing a 12-crore bet on MS Dhoni. Instead of 48 crores, they could have gotten 54 crores. They’ll rely on their previous experience. They don’t actually go after the kids. They’re going to get Faf [du Plessis] at the auction, so why not [Shikhar] Dhawan as well?”
The former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra went on to say:
“In terms of the next three years, Rayudu and Uthappa are slightly problematic alternatives. They’ll go all out to get [Deepak] Chahar and [Shardul] Thakur, at the very least. They like to keep with those with whom they have a good working relationship. I don’t see each other spending 15 crores with their next captain, as they are a very pragmatic team.”
CSK’s plan in the all-rounder auctions, according to Daniel Vettori, will also play a huge part. The four-time champions, according to the former spinner, will need to scout quality candidates to fill the No. 7 and No. 8 positions in the playing XI. Vettori explained:
“The departure of Chahar and Thakur is the most pressing issue they must address. It would be vital how they try to reclaim Chahar and Thakur. If they don’t, how they fill those two places will be crucial. By scouting or overseas alternatives, perhaps another India quick bowler.”
CSK’s title success last year was aided by the all-rounders, who are now well-established in the national team circuit. Thakur and Chahar bring depth and versatility to the team that could be difficult to replace.
“MI will go after Ishan Kishan & de Kock hard,” says Aakash Chopra.
Akash Chopra believes that the Mumbai Indians will continue building on their winning recipe during the forthcoming big auction. MI created a powerful squad in the previous cycle of editions by relying mainly on the aggressive openers and fast bowlers.
The former opener predicted that the 5 champions would spend a lot of money on Ishan Kishan, one of the few players they were unable to keep.
Akash Chopra continued:
“They’ve always had hard-hitting bowlers. MI will go all out for Ishan Kishan and [Quinton] de Kock, attempting to capture at least one, if not both. I believe both will be difficult. Bairstow is the third option since they require a batsman as well as a keeper.”
He stated the five-time IPL champions should pursue the following players for the fast bowling and all-rounder roles:
I’ve always liked Trent Boult’s bowling, but I don’t think he’ll be the first choice. Previously, MI had the luxury of having all-rounders, but then they only have [Kieron] Pollard. I’m not sure if they’d be interested in getting Krunal Pandya.”
So these were thoughts of Akash Chopra on CSK and MI. Hope you enjoyed the article.
